This community needs a jump start like a Buddhist needs enlightenment.

While meditating this afternoon, I farted.

It was a very liberating experience I should hold on to forever to help me with my practice.

Interview with Ingrid Jordt, anthropologist and former Buddhist nun, re: Buddhists in Myanmar/Burma [Nov. 4th, 2007|07:59 am]
Hot Buddhist on Buddhist Action!

I caught the second half of American Public Media's radio program, Speaking of Faith, this morning and thought folks in this community would be interested.

The program is called Burma Buddhism and Power and is described as:
"A look inside the spiritual culture of Burma, exploring the meaning of monks taking to the streets there in September, the way in which religion and military rule are intertwined, and how Buddhism remains a force in and beyond the current crisis."

It features an interview with Ingrid Jordt, "an assistant professor of Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, former Buddhist nun, and author of Burma's Mass Lay Meditation Movement."

I found her words about the bravery of the Buddhist monks, as well as her take on the need for compassion in confronting oppression, incredibly powerful and moving.

Here's the website, which includes a link to hear the radio program as well as to hear the complete interview with Jordt (they couldn't fit the entire interview into the hour-long show):

Oh, hey. I was just wondering what the Buddhist opinion was on giant dick-shaped rocks. I saw a bunch of them at Chiricahua National Monument and wanted to know what the Buddhist opinion of them was.

Where do I get my "official Buddhist" membership card? [Nov. 18th, 2006|11:32 am]

OK, so I've found out that I can't get it at Barnes and Noble or on the Internet... Everyone keeps telling me I'm not a "real Buddhist," and I don't understand, where they got their membership cards, and why I can't get one. What do I have to do to get one? Stop eating meat? Learn another language? Go to a temple? Who do I send a check and a letter to once I've done all these things? I'm sure I'll be that much closer to True Enlightenment!! when I get my card and can say "I'm a real Buddhist now!"

But why do I get the feeling this isn't the point...?

Oh, man, when I'm a boddhisattva, my mustache is going to be way cooler than that one.

How much more suffering do they have to cure when their mustache causes pain?

What kind of mullet do the Pure Land Buddhas have?

Seriously, I was thinking about looking into Pure Land, but now that I see that they worship 14 year old Puerto Rican boys, well, I just can't support that.

If buddhists made a "inspirational daily calendar," what do you think some of them would be?

My favorites would be

"What's the Buddhist view on abortion?"

"Rumi says..."

"LIKE OMGZ, I WAS DOING A THOTH READING LAST NIGHT, AND WHILE I TOOK TIME TO HAIL BEEZLEBUB, AND THE ANCIENT SPIRIT OF GODFUCK, I SAW THIS TOTALLY WICKED TIBETAN SPIRIT FROM YEARS OF LSD USE! MY KARMA IZ PWNED!"

Shhh! Don't tell bodhisattvas -- but in case you didn't spot it...

Yes, the "oddly familiar" deliriousmonk, indeed, turns out to be none other than our old friend, that ubiquitous and impotently obstreperous Twat Of Twats, synthetikmisery.

Those who didn't smell it coming a mile away may now begin kicking themselves vigorously in the backside.

As you were.

The Teachings of Master Goose [Sep. 2nd, 2006|12:23 pm]
Hot Buddhist on Buddhist Action!

thirdreel
Here are my re-render-imagineerings of the teachings of Master Goose. I feel the term "Mother Goose" overlooks the fact that Master Goose is father and mother to us all, and has great wisdom to share with the whole world, but with the awful translations, that wisdom has been lost for centuries. I think my version explains it so much more clearly.

Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall of the Dharma
Humpty Dumpty had a great big fall into Samsara
And all the king's horses, trapped in the realm of beasts,
And all the king's men, trapped in the illusion of future and past,
Couldn't reveal the root-causes of Humpty's suffering,
For only the great truth of the Atman could do that.

Jack and Jill

Jack and Jill's earthly temporal bodies, free from their astral spirits, went up a hill
To seek a well that they may drink of Transcendent Divine Wisdom and attain Nirvana.
Jack fell from the endless cycle of suffering,
And broke the crown of attachment to the physical world,
And led the Bodhisattva path for Jill, who followed him into blissful peace and Moksha.

Namaste, you deluded losers.

What does Buddha say about sex with midgets and fat women?

Is Buddha down for taking one for the team, or is he all about sayin "we don't love them ho's!"?
